50th Anniversary of the March on Washington
Thank you for your support!
There were plenty of recognizable “faces in the crowd” on August 28, 1963. Doctor King, A Philip Randolph, Charleston Heston, Sammy Davis Jr, Joan Baez, and Bob Dylan were among the high profile faces that we recognized then and now.
But with over 250,000 people at the March, there were many many more people who did not have household names or recognizable faces, but their presence at the ’63 march was just as impactful and important.
“Count me in.” is what William A. Johnson Jr. said when invited to be a featured speaker at the Pre-Commemorative March Conference in Washington, DC The conference will take place on August 27, 2013 at the Washington Court Hotel which is located at 525 New Jersey Avenue, N.W. The former Mayor (who grew up in segregated Virginia) and leader of organizations such as the Urban League and the U.S. Conference of Mayors make him the perfect addition to this important event. This original and authentic GMC 1950s transit bus was painstakingly restored and repainted to match (in every way) the Montgomery bus in which Ms. Parks refused to give up her seat. However what makes this historic bus so special is the fact that a state of the art audio, visual, and computer system has been installed making it a one of a kind educational and interactive experience. The Civil Rights Museum on Wheels will be making its way into Washington, DC in early August 2013. Be sure to stop by and experience this unique and very special exhibit.
