50th Anniversary March on Washington
  • 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington

On August 27th hundreds of citizens attended the 2013 Conference on Civil Rights: Marching Forward By Looking Back. The following morning, on August 28, 2013, thousands of citizens, from across this country, converged upon our nation’s capital to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington.
This site provides opportunities for people to share remembrances of and pictures from both marches. Additionally, visitors to this site can get updates on a variety of ongoing civil rights initiatives intended to make Dr. King’s dream a reality.

    Thank you for your support!

cherisewithstudentCherise Y. Peters currently serves as the Associate Provost and Vice President for Enrollment Management at Alabama State University. During her thirty-two years of experience in the field of post secondary education she has seen it all.  Watching young adults making Doctor King’s dream come true at colleges and universities, has been especially satisfying to Peters.  But witnessing the low college retention rates among students of color and the achievement gap that carries over from high school into college has been, at times, very frustrating for Peters.  Her award winning work on enrollment and admissions services at large universities and colleges like Alabama State, Georgia State, and DeVry Universities uniquely positions her to offer insights into the solutions that will keep the dream alive for college students across our nation. We are fortunate to have her join Doctor Perkins at the Washington Court Hotel (located at 525 New Jersey Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C.) on August 27, 2013.  Register on-line for the conference today!  UPDATE: Former Chicago Public Schools CEO Jean Claude Brizard will join Doctor Perkins and Vice Provost Peters at the August 27, 2013 conference.
